Jaime Pressly Arrested for Suspicion of California DUI

Enforcement of the drunk driving laws in California has always been an effort that spared no one, regardless of that person’s name or his or her perceived status. A strong reminder was issued to the public at large this week when actress Jaime Pressly was arrested for California DUI on Wednesday night. She is scheduled to appear in court on February 7.

According to authorities, Ms. Pressly was pulled over on suspicion of DUI in Santa Monica on Wednesday night. She had passengers in the vehicle who were not identified by authorities, and according to police she failed an on-site field sobriety test. No word was given as to whether Ms. Pressly submitted to a breathalyzer test. She was released from custody after posting $15,000 in bail.

Regardless of the fame Ms. Pressly earned for her role on My Name is Earl, a hit television program, she will now have to deal with the fallout from her California DUI arrest just like anyone else. That means that she will have 10 days from the date of her arrest to request a hearing with the California DMV in order to fight for the retention of her driving privileges. If she fails to do so, her driving privileges will likely be revoked.

In addition, Los Angeles County is one of four counties where first-time defendants who are convicted of California DUI will have to install and maintain an ignition interlock device even after she regains her driving privileges. This device requires a breath sample to be given before the vehicle will start, and will require ongoing breath tests while the vehicle is in operation.
