California DUI Checkpoint Set for Pacoima Tomorrow Night

There are many different ways in which law enforcement will look to enforce the laws dealing with California DUI. Most of the time, these laws are enforced by patrolling the streets and keeping watch for drivers who may be acting erratically and/or those who may be leaving from notorious locations. However, law enforcement officials have also grown increasingly accustomed to setting up California DUI checkpoints to question a high number of motorists in one location.

Los Angeles police have announced that they will conduct a California DUI checkpoint in Pacoima tomorrow night, and it will be located on Van Nuys Boulevard between Osborne and Nordhoff streets. As is usually the case with these DUI checkpoints, it will run from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. The officers there will check drivers’ licenses, registrations and question people, and anyone who is suspected of being under the influence could be subject to additional investigation and questioning.

The purpose of this writing is not to alert people who want to drink and drive to avoid this location. Rather, it’s simply to provide some suggestions as to how to handle a situation such as this one if you are driving and you find yourself in the midst of a California DUI checkpoint. Of course, the best way to avoid arrest for this charge is to avoid drinking and driving. In addition, if you do see a California DUI checkpoint, what you should not do includes:

  • Wildly changing directions and attempting to obviously avoid the California DUI checkpoint
  • Argue with officers who question you
  • Refuse to provide identification
  • Attempt to flee the scene after questioning

Any of these steps will simply make matters worse for anyone who attempts them, and law enforcement officials are generally well prepared to handle these specific scenarios.
